Security is a major priority for Bridgeport Port Authority owned Bridgeport Harbor facilities. The two waterfront facilities owned by the Bridgeport Port Authority-the Water Street Dock and Terminal, and the Bridgeport Regional Maritime Complex are Coast Guard recognized facilities and fall under Coast Guard Maritime Security (“MARSEC”) guidelines and regulations.
In 2004 the Bridgeport Port Authority was awarded a $2.9m Homeland Security grant to provide layered security measures at both facilities in accordance with MARSEC recommendations and guidelines.
In 2005 the Bridgeport Port Authority was awarded a second Homeland Security grant ($1.38m) to be used to expand those layered security measures. And in 2007 the Department of Homeland Security awarded a 3rd grant to the Bridgeport Port Authority, to further expand its security measures and layers.
The Bridgeport Port Authority works daily with the City of Bridgeport Harbormaster, the City of Bridgeport Marine Police, the United States Coast Guard and the United States Customs and Border Protection, to patrol and provide a secure environment for users of its waterfront facilities in Bridgeport Harbor.
